Le Mamiya 16 EE remplace le Mamiya 16 Automatic. La disposition des commandes d'ouverture et de vitesse est modifiée par rapport à la version précédente de l'appareil, ce qui donne un capot supérieur moins encombré.
Le nom "De Luxe" n'est pas présent sur l'appareil, mais uniquement sur la boîte.
